Why doesn’t quality equate to revenue?

Isn’t it strange how mediocrity earns so much? The third highest grossing film at the worldwide box office in 2022 was Jurassic World: Dominion, which received a critical drubbing and currently has a rating on IMDB of 5.6/10. This means it earned more than far superior films such as Elvis (16th) and Everything Everywhere All at Once (36th), both of which are currently sweeping up on the awards circuit.
