The perfect person does exist but will rarely just fall into your lap

Some of the most critical decisions businesses make concern executive recruitment – finding the best leaders is vital to their long-term success so it stands to reason that the corresponding processes should be rigorous, measured and given the attention they deserve.
Unfortunately, due to other pressing business needs and perhaps in the belief that talent availability is limited, decision makers all too often hire the first person they meet who seems to satisfy their requirement.
When a business is under pressure is precisely when every hire counts. There must be a sense of urgency but there mustn't be a rush to make things happen at the expense of making the right choice – mistakes will be made. Companies should therefore take time to meet multiple potential candidates, conduct interviews with different stakeholders, benchmark internal and external talent, investigate expertise, industry experience and management style, consider whether the right talent may exist in other sectors, and more.
The perfect person does exist but will rarely just fall into your lap.
